What must I do to be saved?
God knew that all mankind would sin before the world was made.
“For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23
There are no little sins and the penalty of sin is death.
“For the wages of sin is death…” Romans 6:23a
But God loved the world and there was only one way to save mankind. So God the Father sent His only begotten Son Jesus Christ to pay the penalty of death in our place.
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:16
“…the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23b
‘Jesus said to him, “I am the way the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father, but through Me.”’ John 14:6
Jesus died on the cross for our sins and rose from the grave the third day. Jesus reigns in Heaven as Lord of Lords and King of Kings.
“… Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures and He was buried, and He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures…” I Corinthians 15: 3b-4
“… that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those who are in heaven, and on earth, and under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:10-11
What you need to do to receive God’s gift of salvation.
“that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved.” Romans 10:9
‘“Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you shall be saved…”’ Acts 16:31a
If you are truly sorry for your sins and desire to turn away (repent) from sinning and have a right relationship with God , you may pray a prayer in your own words like the following.
I am sorry that I have sinned against You and desire to repent of my sins. Thank You for sending Your Son Jesus to die in my place for the bad things that I have done. I believe that You raised Jesus from the dead and I want Him to come into my heart and live there forever. I want to do what is right and pleasing to You. Thank You for hearing and answering this prayer.
If you have sincerely prayed a prayer like the above, you have received forgiveness for your sins and have become a part of God’s family.
God knows that even after we have asked Jesus into our hearts we still have a sinful nature that wars against our new spiritual nature. We have God’s promise that:
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9
